What is the Contact Information Directory?

The Contact Information Directory is a centralised government contact directory comprising the addresses for state administration organisations and contact information for the employees of these organisations.

The purpose of this service is to gather all public government contact information in one place for quick and easy use. The service replaces the previous service known as Julha.

Contact Information Directory use

The Contact Information Directory service is available online at: https://yhteystietohakemisto.valtori.fi/en. Service use is free of charge for citizens and does not require registration with the service.

Searching for contact information in the service:

  1. Enter your search word in the search field. You can use the following as search words: the name of an individual (forename and/or sur-name) or agency, city, email address, organisation/unit, title, or address.
  2. You can also use multiple search criteria in the same search window. For instance, you can use a surname and a city, separated with a space, as in the image be-low:
  3. You can make use of more values in a search result by clicking on the button. For instance, if you click on the following button next to an individual in the search result i sökresultatet ...the search function will provide all the individuals with the title "finanssiasiantuntija" (fi-nance expert). button removes search criteria from those that were specified.
  4. You can access additional information on the subject of a search result by clicking on the expand button.

Using the Contact Information Directory on different devices

The Contact Information Directory website adapts to displays of varying sizes and different kinds of devices such as tablets and smartphones.

Who can use the Contact Information Directory service?

Anyone can use the Contact Information Directory service. This service is provided free of charge for Finnish citizens. The contact information in the Contact Information Directory can also be com-bined with third-party services via an open interface.

How and from where does the Contact Information Directory service source its information?

The contact information for state administration organisations is automatically obtained by the Con-tact Information Directory from the centralised government voice communications solution. Each agency is independently responsible for the visibility, restrictions and accuracy of its contact infor-mation.

A major part of the contact information for various organisations is concentrated in the government telephone operator service. The purpose of the Contact Information Directory is that if a call can be patched through by the government telephone operator service, the related contact information will also be displayed in the Contact Information Directory service.

How has the Contact Information Directory service been technically implemented?

The Contact Information Directory is a web app that provides an open interface for third parties. The app's user interface adapts to displays of varying sizes and different kinds of devices such as tablets and smartphones.

How can I use the Contact Information Directory service as part of my application or as an external service?

Information in the Contact Information Directory is available via an open interface, meaning that it can be used as part of third-party services.

The open REST interface of the Contact Information Directory can be easily used over an HTTPS connection. A request, created in the GET format, is sent to the interface with a "q" parameter in-cluding the query which is enclosed, e.g. "q=matti", "q=matti+meikäläinen".

The interface sends a reply in the JSON format:

  • Persons includes the contact information found by this search ([]=empty, no result).
  • Index: The reply index number if pagination is used.
  • Count: The number of results in the reply.
  • TotalCount: The number of total results matching the search on the server.

The interface supports pagination, which can be applied by adding the desired search result page (i=index) and the number of results shown on one page (s=size) as parameters.

Example 2: Example 2: If there is more than one page of results for "helsinki", the first page will be shown here, with a maximum of 10 results displayed on the page:

Can the Contact Information Directory be used on mobile devices?

The Contact Information Directory service was constructed to optimally support use on mobile de-vices. In practice, the Contact Information Directory works on all devices through their web brows-ers.

The Contact Information Directory is provided by Government ICT Centre Valtori. Valtori is not re-sponsible for agency-specific information; each agency is responsible for its own information. Valto-ri is not, therefore, responsible for the accuracy of the content nor any deficiencies or problems related to the availability of information.
